The United States Flag Code specifies disposal of the flag in a dignified manner when it is worn out or no longer a fitting symbol to display. Typically this is achieved by respectfully burning or cutting up the flag according to a defined procedure.
In accordance with its mission of “Helping Veterans and Serving Our Community” American Legion Frederick & John Ravin Post 134 will be accepting unserviceable US flags between the hours of 1p and 3p on each of the next three Saturdays, May 23rd, May 30th, and June 6th at the Post, which is located at 2104 NE Alberta St, Portland OR 97211.

Members of Post 134 will respectfully dispose of these flags during The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags as outlined in Resolution No. 440, passed by the 19th National Convention of The American Legion in New York, Sept. 20-23, 1937. The ceremony is normally conducted on Flag Day, June 14th however it will be postponed to a later date once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
