We’re not done with our February book readings at Post 134. Coming this Saturday the 21st at 5pm we will be having author Robert Newton read and release his new book Soldiers of the Strange Night.
“Drawing on interviews, letters, and accounts written by the survivors, as well as war crimes files, Robert Newton’s new book Soldiers of the Strange Night vividly recreates not only one American soldier’s journey into war, imprisonment, capture, evasion and murder, but also the aftermath of the escape as seen through the eyes of his fellow warriors and the valiant Italian family that sustained him during the final days of his life. Soldiers of the Strange Night is a tribute to these remarkably heroic and resilient men who did their duty while facing impossible adversity. It is also a testament to the gracious humanity of the Italian people who dared to protect them, even under penalty of death.”

Then on Sunday, Feb 22nd at 7pm the post is hosting “The Writer’s Voice” reunion reading.
“In May of 2014, a group of women gathered at the Kennedy School in NE Portland to study the Writer’s Voice with Lidia Yuknavitch and Suzy Vitello Soulé. What unfolded over that time was a powerful and transformative experience for all involved. As we shared our stories with each other, we also learned many new ways to break through our fears and speak the language of our bodies.
Come join us for a reunion celebrating the connections we’ve made and our journeys since that fateful weekend.”
The event will be at the American Legion Post 134 (The new spot for literary events in PDX!) and catered by Dar Salam. Full Bar. ADA accessible.
Photo portraits will be provided for our readers by the talented and gracious photographer, Todd Trigsted, for FREE! (Thank you, Todd!)
The musical duo Del Phoena will serenade us through our intermission!
We have fixed our bathroom, we now have two microbrews on tap, and we take cards! A lot of great things are happening at Post 134. Come and be a part of it.
