Join some of Portland’s finest emerging writers in the heart of the Alberta Arts District on Douglas Adams’s birthday for a showcase exploring SPACE. Caitlin Bagwell, Sean Davis, Susan DeFreitas, Pat Janowski,Kirsten Larson, Sally K Lehman, Edward Morris, and Jared John Smith will read. We are collecting canned food for families who need it in our neighborhood. If you can please bring some canned food.

March 20th – Post 134 Presents Don Dupay
Come celebrate the Don Dupay’s book release party for Behind the Badge in River City. Behind the Badge in River City: A Portland Police Memoir, with foreword by crime writer Phil Stanford, is a fascinating first-hand account of the Portland Police Department during the gritty 60s & 70s. DuPay’s compassionate and insightful book paints compelling–and sometimes disturbing– portraits of a cop, a police department and a city. Join us for the launch of this book, enjoy treats with us, and hear Don’s anecdotes about the St. Johns of 40 years ago.
March 27th – Words We Love Too – Reading Series
It’s that time of year again! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and local authors are excited to share more of the words they love. Come and grab a comfy couch and listen to Alex Dannemiller, Jenny Forrester,James Bernard Frost, Celeste Gurevich, Nicole Rosevear, Kevin Sampselland Leni Zumas read locally written prose and poetry that we think you simply have to hear.

(For those new to WWL, the premise is simple: our readers will not be reading their own work at the event; instead they’ll be sharing something they’ve selected by different writers in Oregon. The pieces they’ve chosen are all up to their personal preference–and more dependent on the words than the renown of any particular author.
You know when you’ve experienced some form of art that you just can’t wait to tell everyone about and so you call them or message them or jump up and down right next to them and say OH MY GOD YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS?
